5.18: Mini Spotlight Series - Learning + Evaluation

Show Notes

The Outside is excited to be hosting a mini spotlight series on "Learning + Evaluation" for the month of June. Hosted by Tuesday Ryan-Hart and Dr. Gabrielle Donnelly, we’re shedding a light on one of key pillars of The Outside’s work, methods to support action learning!

  • Tim: Welcome to this special episode of the pod where I’m getting walked offstage and the incredible, Dr. Gabrielle Donnelly, is getting walked onto the pod. Gabrielle has worked with The Outside for years and been leading the Learning & Evaluation part of our work and has been working with Tuesday on the development of The Outside’s Theory of Change & Action. We’re VERY excited to release Tues and Gabe on our podcast audience!

  • Tues: Gabe and I are going to do a special Spotlight Mini Series on Learning and Evaluation (L&E). The Outside uses L&E in all of our work and we felt like it was time to talk about it in a more significant way. We’re going to do a series of four podcasts where we interview three leading experts in the field and then we’ll host a reflection episode on those interviews. Listeners will remember Gabe from episode 5.10 where she and I discussed the book chapter we wrote, “Taking a Radical Stance for Complex Joy in the Work of Shaping Change,” for the Handbook for Creative Futures.

  • Gabe: I’m delighted that we are doing this series because it is so much a part of the work we do at The Outside. The Outside is bringing an evaluative lens to support the action learning that we’re in with our clients as well as internal to our own organization to ensure we are responsive, adapting and evolving to the work as needed rather than our ideas of what is needed. We are interviewing three amazing people:

    • Dr. Dominica McBride (episode airs on: Tues, June 6th) - Founder of Become. She is doing a lot of work around culturally responsive evaluation.

    • Jamie Gamble (episode airs on: Tues, June 13th) - He is a leader in Developmental Evaluation. He will be speaking to and how it intersects with strategies for change.

    • Dr. Gladys Rowe (episode airs on: Tues, June 20th) - Dr. Rowe does work around Indigenous evaluation and bringing Indigenous worldviews into evaluative practices and grappling with the challenges and opportunities in that.
