Shared Work: Working Across Difference Over Time

Often the differences between collaborators — different perspectives, backgrounds, ideologies and aspirations — becomes the focus of projects rather than getting work done together. But there is important work to be done, and we must figure out a way to do it together. In this keynote, we present  the Shared Work model, which puts getting to work back at the center of our collaborations and offers up important leadership stances to take and ways to get unstuck in our collaborative work.

Two Loops of Systems Change

The Two Loops of Systems Change is a simple, yet effective big picture map of how change happens. In this interactive session, you / your team will learn more about working with the natural rhythm of change processes and identify where we - and others - are on this map. We will also learn and reflect on what it will take to more deliberately and effectively lead interventions for enduring change.

Principles + Practices of Engagement

The solitary heroic model of leadership is no longer sufficient for the changes we want to see in our organizations, systems, and communities. Instead, as leaders, we need to engage others to help our efforts be successful. But how do we know who to engage and how to engage them? In this keynote, we present some Principles of Engagement to support our efforts to build momentum through participation.

Leading Through Uncertainty (Chaordic Stepping Stones + Lenses)

What's the minimum order we need to navigate change meaningfully and productively? Too much control and we kill learning, too little and everything falls apart. In this keynote, we’ll introduce the Chaordic Stepping Stones. Chaordic is a mash up of the word “Chaos” and “Order”.Too much chaos results in wasted energy and little progress. Too much order can stifle creativity and a nimble responsiveness to dynamic situations or opportunities. When we are not sure where we are going, or what we can do to best serve the future, we can bring useful form to our work by working with clear steps. These steps are intended to create generative structures that allow us to be effective in our work without stifling creativity, the emergence of new ideas and innovative ways to implement action.

Working with Power

Most of us know that to make change in our organizations and communities we have to skillfully work with power. In this keynote, we'll talk about the different kinds of power and identify some key questions to engage in as we work to increase our capacity to make change.  We'll also talk about how to move away from a strictly transactional understanding of power and move toward a new way of thinking about power as we do our work.
