Together they explore, “what is leadership in these times?” Hear from these senior leaders in public health navigating the public opinions and political pressures of COVID in Minnesota, where George Floyd was murdered. About Kim, Becky + Sarah

Kim Milbrath has 25 years of experience in public health project management, advocacy, and policy campaign planning and execution and business development with state and federal agencies, foundations, health care systems and local and national non-profit organizations. She has worked with leading national organizations including the American Heart Association, Susan G Komen Advocacy Alliance, the National Alzheimer’s Association, the Centers for Disease Control, as well as local level groups such as the NYC Smoke Free Coalition and BCBS of Minnesota’s Center for Prevention to develop community population health and system change initiatives.  Kim currently is the Director of the Center for Public Health Practice at the Minnesota Department of Health and is thrilled to be working again in her home state to transform the state public health system. She lives in the amazing city of St. Paul with her two kids, two very high maintenance dogs, and Snowflake the cat.

Becky Sechrist is a loyal, compassionate, and committed public health professional with a proven record of leadership and performance in rapidly changing, dynamic environments.  She is a hands on, team player and team builder with over twenty-five years of progressive success in the field.  Becky is a focused and customer-centered leader with extensive knowledge and management/supervisory experience in diverse areas including: organizational effectiveness, program planning and policy & systems change to improve health and quality of life, expand opportunity and strengthen communities.  Committed to the principles of “Servant Leadership,” she is recognized as an empowering leader and supervisor, skilled in motivating and developing personnel while promoting the agency’s core mission, vision and values. She is entering her tenth year as a supervisor in the Community Health Division at the Minnesota Department of Health. Prior to that she worked for 20 years at a non-profit public health organization who’s vision was to be an innovative leader in bridging public health research and practice.

Sarah Reese has worked in governmental public health for most of her career, and for the last ten years, has served as the local public health Administrator for the Polk-Norman-Mahnomen Community Health Board and Director of Polk County Public Health in rural Northwest Minnesota. In 2021 Sarah had the honor of serving as the Chairperson for the Local Public Health Association of Minnesota. She has a passion for people and knack for providing leadership by mobilizing people, organizations and communities to effectively tackle public health challenges. Sarah loves to bring "back of the napkin" ideas to fruition and have fun along the way.
